What is it? Teamspeak 2 is a freeware voice communication program that was developed and distributed by Dominating Bytes Design. We find that Teamspeak 2 offers many options not found in other voice over ip applications and is easy to use. Thus, we use it as our primary means of over-the-net voice communication. How do I get it? You can download the latest Teamspeak 2 Client Software at http://www.teamspeak.org. What ports do I need to open on my firewall/router? Many have found they don’t need to open any ports at all. However, if you are having trouble connecting to the servers you may need to open UDP port 8767, 8768 and 8772. Setting Up Teamspeak 2 Teamspeak 2 allows its users to set up hotkeys that will allow you to switch channels and even servers during game play... which means Alt-Tabbing just so you can talk to someone on another channel is totally unecessary. Here are some simple instructions for setting up your hotkeys to work with the Teamspeak 2 Server: (note: be sure to use keys that are not normally used by WWIIOL. Otherwise, they might conflict with in-game operation.) 1. Open Teamspeak 2 2. Click on CONNECTION, then CONNECT 3. Right Click on Servers, then left click on ADD SERVER 4. Enter the server name (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary), then hit ENTER 5. Enter the IP address of the appropriate server as listed in the Command Center under the Members Area of our website in the SERVER ADDRESS field. 6. Enter your in-game name followed by _JG2 in the NICKNAME field (Ex: Slade_JG2) 7. Click on ANONYMOUS 8. Enter the password listed for the appropriate server as listed in the Command Center under the Members Area of our website in the PASSWORD field. 9. Click on AUTO-RECONNECT 10. Enter JG2 “Richtofen” in the DEFAULT CHANNEL field. 11. Repeat steps 3 through 10 for all three servers 12. Highlight the server you wish to connect to and click CONNECT 13. Click on SELF, then REGISTER WITH SERVER 14. Enter a Username and Password of your choice for logging into this server. 15. Click on CONNECTION, then CONNECT 16. Click on REGISTERED, then enter your Username and Password chosen in step 14 in the appropriate fields. 17. Repeat steps 12 through 16 for each of the 3 servers (if a server doesn’t allow you to register then continue logging in as anonymous) 18. Go to SETTINGS, and then SOUND SETTINGS 19. Click on PUSH TO TALK 20. Click on SET, then press the key you’ll use to transmit to others 21. Click on CLOSE 22. Go to SETTINGS, and then KEY SETTINGS 23. Click ADD 24. Click SET 25. Press the key you wish to use to map. If setting a key combination click the 2nd SET then press the 2nd key in the combination. 26. Choose the ACTION you want the key combination to perform. 27. Click on OK 28. Repeat steps 23 through 27 for each key mapping you wish to make. At a minimum you should have each JG2 channel and all 3 servers mapped to key combinations. 29. Click on CLOSE 30. After you've done this, you can test out your hotkeys. As you press the hotkeys, you should see your name switching from channel to channel. This works in game as well! Remember, you can assign key combinations such as Shift-F5, or Ctrl-F6, or whatever you wish. 31. Click on SETTINGS, then OPTIONS 32. Click on WAVE 33. Slide the bar under DIRECT SOUND BUFFER SIZE all the way to the right to BETTER SOUND QUALITY 34. If you want to disable all of the “player connected” type voices, click on the SOUND NOTIFICATIONS tab and put a checkmark in DISABLE ALL SOUNDS 35. Click on the OTHER tab, then click on PROCESS PRIORITY HIGH 36. Click on OK 37. Woot! You are now ready to connect to the server and join in on the voice comms. Teamspeak 2 Courtesy and Combat Protocol When connecting to the server, please be advised of the following: 1. The JG2 “Richtofen” channel is the channel you will default to when you connect to the server. It is a public channel for everyone to join and run their pie holes at their leisure However, please try to talk in turn... When 2 or more people want to talk at the same time, things can become rather chaotic. :) 2. The Gruppe channels are dedicated entirely to specific battlefield operations, such as unit actions, multicrewed vehicles, etc. etc. Keep chatter to a minimum, and ONLY IMPART PERTINENT INFORMATION, such as position inquiries, target information, etc. Ideally, the one doing most of the talking will be the Commander of the operation in question. Do NOT clutter the channel with "OOOOOH"s, "AAAAHHH"s, or "OH SHIT!"s.
